Kristallnatch is a German word translated onto english it means crystal night literally. Although when it was used it was known as The Night of Broken Glass. Kristallnatch became a tragically famous night. It was November 9th to the 10th, 1938 Nazi Germany and Austria. When an anti-jewish pogrom broke out killing approximately 91 Jews and around 30,000 jews were arrested. During Kristallnatch Jews were beaten and deported while Nazi police smashed jewish synagogues, houses and shops. The night of broken glass represents when thousands of people became broken themselves. So many people died that night wether they were still breathing or not when they went to the concentration camps, they weren't really alive anymore. Those that thought they were lucky to make it through the night and into the morning had no idea the hell that would come with survival.Friday, February 11, 2011

Markus Zusak was Born June 23, 1975, in Sydney. His father was an

Predicting Catching Fire

I think that Peeta and Katniss will end up getting together and going against the government. I could also see the government force Peeta and Katniss to marry unless they are willing to admit that they are not in love. I have a feeling that there will be just as much death and pain in the next book called Catching Fire.
I chose the word fire because they have been about fire during the whole book. Fire makes me think of pain and they deffintly went through more then just pain. They went through hell.

Susan B. Anthony

Susan B. Anthony fought against human misery. She wanted to make so that woman could have more power over there own bodies and minds. One of the biggest things she did is she helped make birth control legal. That way woman could decided if they wanted to become pregnant and it was no longer just the guys choice. She ended up getting her face on the one dollar coin for all the hard
work she did.
I think what Susan did was amazing she gave woman opportunities. Although she did not get involved with the woman's rights conventions until she was older she still did a lot of work. So for more information please link to my glog.

The Crucible book summery

In The Crucible it is about pertains in 1692. They where very strict people and even children had to act like adults. No one could have a mind of there own. So when one day a whore named Abigail started to say that people were doing witchcraft. By her own ignorance she started to turn people into the authorities. She was telling them that these people had sent the devil after her and that they needed to go to hell.

Excommunication
Today in the book The Crucible I chose the word "Excommunication." The reason this word is used is because there is not enough communication. If there was more communication instead of higher powers that tell everyone how to live. It would be better and more efficient if they communicated on a better level.

TERRIFIED of The Consequences
TERRIFIED is the word i chose to describe the latest parts in this book called The Crucible, because Tituba, Abigail, and Betty were so frightened about what there punishments would be. So they started to shout out random names of innocent souls, and cursed them with the burden of the tittle Witch. They were trembling at first then when they found that they would still be believed if they would just tell the reverend and minister that they saw others there, and that those innocent people were walking with devil. So because everyone was terrified of there secrets they mad a huge mistake and now i predict that everyone will have to pay for those lies.

Tragedy in Haiti

In Haiti there have been very serious earthquakes in a short period of time leaving disastrous situations to clean up. Up to 100,000 people may have died and many others are still hidden away by the debree. At the moment there is a need for $550 million dollars of food needed to feed the ones that were lucky enough to survive the quakes but have had no luck in being able to feed themselves. The earthquake caused a very poor country to became even more poor. These people are defenceless at the moment and need help. This earthquake was known as a 7.0 which is a very dangerous earthquake. Obama says the U.S.A. will do anything to help this country back on its feet because it is a horrible tragedy that this happened. He tries to tell the people in Haiti that he will help them but the people in Haiti are getting tired of waiting and being hungry. They need help. All they want is some pure water and it would make the days seem a little bit better.

True or False
Ishmael beah is being said to be lying about his book. There was a man named Lloyd that had read Ishmaels book A Long Way Gone. He had read the part were supposedly Ishmael's parents died by the rebels in a village. This man named Lloyd has found Ishmael's father or so he thinks. When he messages Ishmael's editor the editor seems to ignore the messages then finally tells Lloyd to leave them alone and that they did not wish to here it. He was also asked to keep it quite.
Lloyd decided one day that he wanted the truth to be out so he contacted a television producer in Sydney named Anita Jacoby. Lloyd was hoping that Jocoby would pass the word along and she did.The Australian couldn't Wait to here of these things they were already trying to say he lied about fighting for two excruciating years. They were saying he could only have been in there for a couple months if at all.

A Quote From Carl Schurz
Carl Schurz once said " From the equality of rights springs identity of our highest interests; you cannot subvert your neighbor's rights without striking out a dangerous blow at your own." I chose this quote because I believe that what he is saying is true. Once you start to take away other peoples rights you will also be taking away your own. I believe in equal rights just like Carl Schurz the once young German that came to New York in 1852 with his wife. He became a republican and was a general. He fought for the emancipation of the slaves. Although he became famous by being a political writer. He was against slavery and segregation in every way.

The way this relates to now is that there are still people out there that judge others by the color of there skin and relgion. Although it is illegal to have slaves now some people still hate others, because of the way they look.

Single Slices of Life
"A Single Slice Reveals Them"
An apple on the table

hides it's seeds
so neatly
under seamless skin
But we talk and talk and talk
to let somebody
in.
By: Naomi Shihab Nie
I think this poem describes Ishmael and his friends because right now they are trying to find themselves yet they are not sure on how to do so. They are starting to get better but are still traumatized by the war. Reliving all the horrible scenes that was once known as their lives. They are hiding so much in themselves and don't know exactly how to get out of a hole that other people put them in. The place that they are living in they have friends to talk to but since they hardly know themselves they don't know what to say. So they waste their breath on hate and violence and that is so difficult to let go. They cling to it like it's all they have because that's all they know anymore. The seeds of life are planted within them, they just need to let them grow.

"Green Snake"
Greed is his game green snake is his name
Reality is never near when this boy has his gear
Eyes are red from to many drugs
Everything just falls apart
Never forget the pain they caused
Sneaking under bushes and covering there tushes
Naked with fear at first
AK 47 strapped to his side during the worst
Kill is what they were told
Evil is among us

Experiences in Africa
My class watched a documentary called God Grew Tired of Us I thought it was a very interesting movie. It took place in Sudan in 1987. The boys in it were named "the lost boys" there were 27,000 of them and they had to flee to Ethiopia, because the government would have killed them if they didn't.
In the movie God Grew Tried of Us and the book A Long Way Gone there are lots of similarities and differences. In the video the people were from the country Sudan and they were called the lost boys. In the book the characters were from the country Sierra Leone and they either were soldiers or rebels.

"Keeping things Whole"
In a field
I am the absence
of field.
This is
always the case.
Wherever I am
I am what is missing.
When I walk
I part the air
and always
the air moves in
to fill the spaces
where my body's been.
We all have reasons
for moving.
I move
to keep things whole.
by: Mark Strand
"A Long Way Gone" is about an African boy that grew up in Sierra Leone. He had a good life and thought things were going great until a bunch of rebels showed up. When the rebels came into play the boys life started to go down-hill. First of all they came in and destroyed his village. Then he had to run away with some of his friends, and before they new it they were being clutched up by soldiers and haled away. They were then brain washed to become the perfect soldiers. Even though some weren't even tall enough to hold on to there guns correctly.
